get to know me

The song that makes me happy is … 'Chicken Fried' - Zac Brown Band. It reminds me that there's no place like home ... and you have to play it LOUD!

The first album I ever bought was …
Michael Jackson - BAD!

My favorite DVD is …I don't watch tv shows on DVD - but I love 'Dirty Dancing' -and I have that on DVD!

The biggest moment in my career was …when I got to meet Eric Church - huge crush, plus I love his music!

My favorite time of year is …summer - but I love all seasons!

My favorite road trip pit stop is …somewhere to pee

The first thing I do every morning is … check my facebook - sad but true

I like spending a Saturday night …watching a band with friends

The thing I love to eat but shouldn’t is …cheese - it gives me a headache

The best gift I ever received was …a car!

Christmas has come and gone ....

What a wonderful Christmas vacation! I got a few days off work and got to spend it with my family and my boyfriends family. We woke up at 6:30am (which is actually a sleep-in for us) and proceeded to make our way through the mountain of gifts under the tree. One of my favorite gifts was an ice scraper! I am really bad at not buying 'necessity' items for myself, I'd rather buy a pair of shoes or get my hair done - so I had the biggest smile on my face after opening that gift. We then headed to my boyfriends Christmas gathering, where we once again got stuck into Christmas unwrapping. I got some wonderful gifts - including a zip-lining tour for 2 through the gorge, which I'm incredibly nervous, yet excited to do. I'm all about adventure. We then retired to bed at the early hour of 8pm. It was a busy yet family-orientated Christmas break and even though I had a couple of stressful moments the week before Christmas, there's something about being with the people you love and who love you, that makes it all worthwhile.

M&M's

Mick & Marlowe's Motivational Monday!

WORK-OUT PERSONALITIES - WORK VS. WORKING OUT

The Free Spirit

-Exercise has to be fun!
-You have difficulty sticking to any type of exercise schedule
-You enjoy many actvities
-Joining a walking or running club may help you stick to a regular schedule to avoid times when you slack on exercise
-Try dance or fitness classes you can attend weekly or several times a week
-Try playing games like Wii Fit or joining a sports team
-To stay on track, schedule more of your workouts, give yourself reasons to exercise, commit to regular activity & keep having fun

The Seeker

-You like trying new things but have a history of starting & quitting exercise
-You many even have some home gym equipment you've bought & given up on. But still you persevere & you want to find something that works for you.
-You may be a bit self-conscious & worry about what other people might think, on the other hand you're social & enjoy being in a group.
-It may be a good idea for you to join a gym. Look for one with an open & accepting atmosphere where you don't feel out of place.
-Try to get a friend to work out with you so you have some support.
-Work with a personal trainer so that they will be there for you when you might be inclined to give up your exercise regime.
-Try to master one activity at a time, like free weights & then move to classes so that you stay interested.
-If you don't feel ready to join a gym, try exercise videos you can do at home & set a regular time & place to do them!

By the Book

-Leader, goal-orientated, no problem getting committed, may get stuck in ruts
-Walking, running, cycling, try training for a race so that you can set a goal & work towards it.
-The challenge of martial arts could also be appropiate.
-Try not to be inflexible, be opn to new ideas & try not to be a know-it-all. Listen to suggestions.

The Hard Worker

-You may be in a rut
-You find something that works & you stick with it & go hard at it
-You might be too relient on what works & are afraid to try new things, because you may not get the same results.
-It's a good idea to try leaving your comfort zone & try something new.
-Your body needs new challenges so that you won't reach a plateau & stay there.
-Try working out with a buddy or family member to get some excitement back in your workouts
-If you gravitate towards cardio machines, try different programs on the machines, like the treadmill or eliptical.
-Work out with a heart rate monitor to see how much or how little you're pushing yourself.
-Try a fitness class, you'll be proud of yourself as you easily master it & you just might find something you enjoy.
-Working with a personal trainer is a great way to try new activites you may shy away from. They'll make the decision for you so you have to try new things. They can also give you a new & exciting program
-Watch out for boredom, overuse injuries & quitting because you can't get out of your rut

M&M's

Mick & Marlowe's Motivational Monday!

EASY DOES IT! COZ DIETS DON'T!

Because we are all different, our daily energy needs differ — and so should our consumption. We’d be smart to focus less on what we are eating and more on the amount.

Here are six easy tips to help you manage your intake — and, consequently, your weight.

1. In a single meal, never eat a total amount that’s larger than your fist. For now, stop worrying about proteins, carbohydrates, trans fats — counting calories or points — and pay attention to how much you’re eating. (Research indicates that using smaller plates and utensils can make a difference, too.)

2. If you splurge on a special occasion, make that the exception, rather than let it become your daily practice.

3. Eat small amounts frequently and regularly throughout the day instead of starving yourself and then bingeing at lunch (or, even worse, at the end of day).

4. Stop when you first start to feel full. The sensors in your stomach operate on a “delay” and you’re actually full about 10 minutes before you get that satiated (let alone “stuffed”) sensation.

5. Make it a practice to leave a little on the plate, rather than getting seconds or leftovers on a routine basis.

6. Avoid all-you-can-eat restaurants. When you are served a large meal, cut it in half when you start and put the extra in a take-out box so you won’t be tempted to finish it all.

Remember when it comes to your health, eating less is more and simple is best. Easy does it.

Mick & Marlowe's Motivational Monday!

5 WAYS TO PREVENT SEASONAL AFFECTIVE DISORDER THIS WINTER

Seasonal Affective Disorder (SAD) affects over 60% of people in the US & is most common in the northern states where the sun pulls a disappearing act for months on end. Humans experience noticeable changes in mood & behavior during the winter months; fatigue, cravings for carbohydrates & difficulty concentrating are a few symptoms of SAD that can make winter days especially depressing.

Here are 5 ways to prevent the symptoms of SAD from taking away from your day:

1. Get a sun lamp. Light therapy has been used for several decades to treat patients suffering from depression & some mood disorders. Lights that imitate the rays of sun can be especially effective at boosting your mood & keeping you alert & energetic.

2. Watch your diet. Cut back on caffeine & reduce refined sugars & white flour from your diet for a noticeable increase in energy. It might be tough to cut back on the daily coffee habit or snacking on sweets & treats throughout the day, but you'll enjoy a natural energy boost.

3. Take up walking. Even though it's tough to get up and going in the morning, get into the habit of going for a quick walk or just job on the treadmill for 15-20 minutes. The light exercise can give your mood a boost.

4. Get some air! Fresh oxygen is essential for a stable mood, so make sure you're getting outside for at least 10-15 minutes, regardless of the temperature.

5. Learn to manage stress in a healthy way. When you're feeling overwhelmed by stress and full of anxiety all day long, your energy levels will quickly reach an all time low. Take a yoga class to learn deep breathing skills so that you can release stress naturally, or take up a new hobby that gives you a chance to break out of your routine.

crock pot sunday

I have been a long-time fan of the single life ... however since meeting my very own Boy Wonder, alot of things have changed. I actually enjoy long walks, movie nights & Crock Pot Sundays. What is Crock Pot Sundays? A little ritual that Boy Wonder came up with & one which I look forward to every single Sunday ... Boy Wonder LOVES to cook & since buying his very own Crock Pot, instead of sleeping til atleast 11am every Sunday, he has progressivly moved to rising before 9am! Which being an early bird, suits me just fine!
Here is why I think he loves Crock Pot Sunday ... he begins cooking Sunday dinner before 12noon, which means he can watch football all afternoon, have a beer & infiltrate the entire house with the aroma of a roast. Bare in mind 99% of the time I can do without the football, and beer isn't my cup of tea, my true love for Crock Pot Sundays is that the house smells of a roast. Does it remind me of home, does it make me forget that tomorrow is the dreaded Monday, does it remind me that Winter is just around the corner? Whatever it is, not only do I look forward to it every Sunday, I feel lost without it. It's my wind-down, it's the time reserved for just my Boy Wonder & I and it's when I catch up on that book I've been wanting to sit down with ... and surprisingly EVEN laundry is fun to do on Crock Pot Sundays.

Donorama 2009

One of the highlights from last week was 'Donorama 2009.' The American Red Cross 'Donorama 2009' was held at Crossroads Mall last Wednesday from 11am - 7pm and the turn out was fantastic. I think giving blood is one of the most selfless acts that a human being can do. It was amazing to see the crowds lining up and giving blood.
I met an incredible donor while I was there called Justin Meadows. He was not only a donor but a recipient. Justin was in a bad motorcycle accident last year and was in need of 100 units of blood. If it wasn't for 'The American Red Cross' and the blood drives that they do, Justin probably wouldn't be with us today. He will forever be grateful to the people that so selflessly give blood & continues to support 'The American Red Cross' blood drives. He himself gave blood last Wednesday and talked with donors about his experience & thanked them all. He was a true inspiration! I don't think alot of people realized that in 1 hour they just saved up to 3 lives!
This is a pic of Ted, Justin & myself - yes we were stuck in jail!

29th Annual Music in the Mountains Bluegrass Festival

I got to head along to the 29th Annual Music in the Mountains Bluegrass Festival at Summersville Music Park in Summersville. What an amazing day. As I pulled into Summersville Music Park, I realized that there were license plates from Canada, New York, Arizona, California - THIS WAS A BIG DEAL! I got to talk to Jamie Dailey of Dailey & Vincent. Incredibly amazing talent! Then I got to talk with James King from The James King Band. He has been playing these festivals for 30 years! As the time got closer to Rhonda Vincent & the Rage taking the stage, a huge Martha White tour bus pulled in. The tour bus backed into the parking spot right beside us. It was Rhonda's tour bus! As her band emerged from the bus I got to talk with her lead singer Mickey. What a great guy! He played his Dobro guitar for me, talked about touring with Rhonda & let me in on a little secret; Rhonda's title track Destination Life off her latest cd was written by a New Zealander! Very exciting stuff. If you got the chance to check out the 29th Annual Music in the Mountains Bluegrass Festival, I hope you had a great time & I definitely know I'll be back

Country Buzz - May 28th

Trace Adkins can think of someone he's like to see compete on the next 'Celebrity Apprentice': John Rich! Trace says he's told the show's producers to go after John, because he would not only do well but would 'savor the opportunity'
What could be better for Taylor Swift than touring with one of her best friends, Kellie Pickler. Taylor says they will 'sit in the dressing room 'til 2 or 3am just talking' & painting their nails. She says they are 'like sisters at this point.' And even though Taylor has numerous friends in the music business, including Kellie & Miley Cyrus, she says she doesn't 'compete with other girls' - she competes with herself.
Miley Cyrus's boyfriend, Justin Gaston, wants to clear one thing up: he's not living with Miley and her family. He says that he lives in 'an apartment in North Hollywood with 2 guys!' Even when he's not with Miley, Justin usually can't avoid photographers.

Guy's Guide to Flirting

Not sure whether to make a move? Get clued in to the signals she's sending with your Guy's Guide to Flirting

1. A smile
This is the simplest flirt there is, & the hardest to misinterpret. If a women smiles at you from across the room, this means that she wants you to talk to her.

2. The hair twirl
The girly, unselfconscious habit of playing with her hair means that a women is interested.

3. A cry for help
If a women asks you for assistance in any way, such as, "Excuse me, could you help me figure out the tip on this bar tab?" she's flirting with you

4. Happy Feet
Consciously, a women may play hard to get by twisting her upper body away, but her feet show where her interest really is. A clueless guy should ask her for some friendly questions, then watch carefully to see if she starts pointing her toes in your direction.

5. Fidgeting
This one cuts both ways, if a girl constantly tosses her hair, twists her ring etc, this counts as flirtatious behavior if and only if she maintains uninterrupted eye contact

LOL - Laugh out Loud!!!

A Romanian groom is trying to pay for his marriage by selling advertising space on his wedding tie.
Tudor Ciora has set up a website for bidders - and reckons he'll easily pay for the ceremony and some special presents.
Companies can pay for a slot near the top of his tie, one in the middle or at the bottom of his tie. Mr Ciora's website - www.cravatamea.com - keeps a running total of all bids. "Hopefully we'll raise enough money to buy a new car as well," he explained.

How to prep your place for a date!!

Make your space look appealing to the opposite sex...
This applies especially to men, whose pads often resemble frat houses—filled with mountains of laundry, grime-covered sports gear and empty beer bottles. First, clean up the mess—laundry in particular.

...but not like a page from House Beautiful.
While men's pads may sorely lack atmosphere, women's abodes tend to have other, um, issues. Take some of those accent pillows off the sofa and move any delicate items to high shelves where they'll be out of harm's way. Tempted to straighten that stack of books or magazines on the coffee table for the third time? Leave them, they're fine.

Edit what's on your bookshelves.
Guys, stash Playboy or any similar "reading" material, and girls, put away books with titles like He's Just Not That Into You—your self-help habit is something you should keep to yourself until further along in the relationship.

Stash the personal finances.
Never leave revealing financial documents (think bank statements, credit-card bills, pay stubs) lying around in plain sight. People do look. Even unopened, a mound of mail can still set off alarm bells.

Fix your fridge.
Chances are high your date will get a glimpse in there when they help themselves to a drink, so make sure you've cleared out old takeout containers and rotting vegetables.

Do a fast cleaning blitz on the bathroom.
A clean sink and toilet go without saying, but beyond that, scan your medicine cabinet. People really do peek, so if yours contains a boatload of prescription pills or anything else that sends a weird message clear them out for the evening.

Silence your phone.
Turn off the ringer on your phone to prevent mood-killing interruptions. After all, the last thing you want is the voice of your wacky friend, overbearing mom or psycho ex intruding when you're snuggled on the sofa and just about to lean in for a kiss.

Are woman more attracted to men in expensive cars?

Are woman more attracted to men in expensive cars?

British researchers from the University of Wales have scientifically proved the obvious - women are more attracted to men in expensive cars.
I asked my listeners 'are woman more attracted to men in expensive cars' the other morning and I ended up getting a huge response.
Most woman said 'no way!' and 'he probably has a huge car payment' and my favorite 'he's trying to compensate for something.' I even put my friend Amanda on the spot ... she quipped 'I'd rather it was fast!'
Which got me thinking ... of the guys I've dated, there have been a few that indulged in the assumption that chicks dig guys with nice rides. And while it's exciting in a 'that's hot' kind of way, it's usually over-rated. You'll never know if he's insecure, if he's materialistic, if he uses it to woo other chicks ... AND worst of all YOU'LL NEVER DRIVE IT!

TWITTER can be hazardous to your relationship! Jennifer Aniston broke up with John Mayer because of his obsession with Twitter.
A 'source' says, "John suddenly stopped calling her or returning her e-mails and when she would finally catch up with him, he'd say : 'I've been so busy with work, I'm sorry I haven't had time to call you back.' Hiccups on Air

I never want to be 'that girl' ... 'that dj' ...
I have heard numerous 'horror' stories of burping on-air, coughing on-air and of course the one you cannot control AT ALL 'hiccuping' on-air.
This morning at around 7:05am I started hiccuping pretty badly and realized that my worst fear might actually come true ... I could hiccup on-air. I tried holding my breath, drinking my coffee really fast, I jumped up and down, I put my head between my knees ... I tried everything to get rid of them.
With 60 seconds left of Sugarlands 'It happens' (haha), I realized that everyone at some point has a moment on-air that they cannot help.
Be it my intense concentration or the fact that I was so scared of the embarrassment I might cause myself, with 10 seconds to go, my hiccups magically disappeared.
I am a very happy 'morning' person but I do not think I've ever been THAT perky on-air ... yep I'm 'that girl'

Heading to Snowshoe this weekend

So I'm heading to Snowshoe Mountain this weekend with a bunch of friends and I'm nervous. I am not a terribly bad snowboarder ... I just don't seem to be getting any better. I have been 'practicing' the past couple of weekends at Winterplace and I have the one slope I go down and that's it. I know exactly where to slow down ... where I have to totally stop ... and where I know I can go a little faster. It is in my opinion, a fairly safe slope for a newbie like me. However from the pictures above you can tell I have had a couple of spills ... resulting in the biggest bruise I think my knee has ever experienced. I have had people ask me 'did you jump off a rail' or 'did you fly into something.' The truth of the matter is, I simply kept falling on my right knee and it was so cold I did not feel the bump getting bigger.
So as I prepare for my mini-vacation to Snowshoe, I will definitely be packing some advil, some comfy shoes, taking some of my best girl-friends and I must not forget the (man-size) kneepads I spent a small fortune on ...
Catch ya next week ... hopefully not in too much pain!

My thoughts on Valentines Day

I doesn't matter if I'm single or in a relationship, I've never been a fan of Valentines Day. I've read a lot of articles on the input that the media has on Valentines Day and I find it incredibly frustrating.
Typically girls put the most effort and thought into this day ... however the more guys I talk to the more I realize that both sexes have become a tad 'obsessed' with this day.
One of the best articles I've read as of late is that Valentines day, should be a day to take stock of your love life. Whether you're single, dating, in a relationship or married, take stock of what you want and what you have. Roses, Chocolates, HUGE teddy bears are all very sweet but just remember Valentines Day is just a day.
So whatever I receive on Valentines Day, will remain a mystery til this Saturday. I will embrace the day however, as I'm working and as I've always said there's nothing like the relationship you can have with you're job ...

Letter to Me

I love the whole idea of writing a letter to your 'younger' self. So here goes

... High School is a lot easier than you think ... once you get out in the real world it's a whole lot harder to have a sick day.
... boys will come and go and it will get harder every time ...
... there's a reason you always loved working at More FM
... your sisters will become your best friends
... so will your mum
... you will become the person you always thought you would be
... people will tear you down every chance they get, that great 'ignoring' asset you have will come in handy a fair amount

thats it for now ... more to follow ...
